Idiom of the week
34. In the pink
"The company doctor came round today-cheers."
"Yeah, cheers. Lovely. You've got a company doctor?"
"Yeah, well, it's a big factory isn't it? Anyway, he made us all take one of these cholesterol tests."
"Colostomy? Yeah, I had one of those last year. Very painful I can tell you. "
"No, you dozy halfwit! Cholesterol. C.H.O.L.E.S.T.E.R.O.L."
"Oh yes, please, a pint."
"You can spell when it suits you. Same again, please Jackie. Anyway, cholesterol tests tell you how healthy your heart is."
"He said to me: 'George. You're in the pink'"
"Well that's a relief. You still owe me for that £100 I lent you last month. P.A.Y.U.P."
Explanation: Feeling very healthy.
Notes: This idiom comes from the mindless sport of fox hunting. The idiots on horses who hunt the foxes dress up traditionally, which means they wear pink jackets. They were only permitted to go hunting if they wore those jackets which meant they were in a fit state to go hunting.
